The 28th of May marks the start of Krakow Photomonth 2021! This year’s edition of the festival will be open in every possible way: we’re preparing new forms of presentation, we’re gathering some new audience and we’re exploring new subjects.
Time of pandemic is really difficult for us, but also extremely intense, not only due to epidemic constraints. The situation forced us to introduce significant changes in the formula of the festival, it prompted us to search for new ways of communication with the audience and to test new event formats. Exhibitions in galleries and museums will run this year in parallel with local events involving the inhabitants of Krakow. Guest exhibitions, including those prepared by students of art schools, will be an important part of the program.
“Our ambition is to make the festival more and more a platform for cooperation, a place of experiment and open space in every way. So we will depart from hermetic narratives in favor of micro-history and personal encounters. A good meeting, presentation, projection or action can have the same impact as a classic exhibition; the exhibitions will be a pretext for discussion” says Tomasz Gutkowski, head of the Foundation for Visual Arts, which organizes the Krakow Photomonth.
